Sir:-
With reference to previous correspondence, I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to transmit to you, to be laid before the Secretary of State for the Colonies, a copy of a despatch from His Majesty's Minister at Peking reporting the measures taken by the Chinese authorities with a view to putting an end to the export of prepared opium from China into Hongkong.
Sir E. Grey presumes that steps will now be taken by the Government of Hongkong to prohibit the export of opium from Hongkong into China in accordance with the arrangement arrived at on the subject with the Chinese Government.
